YHEC 2019 has come and gone, and as usual, it was a great time and we were sad that it had to end. It was just us and Cady again this year, as Colton left for his Peru trip before we were home. Papa and Gramma joined us again, too.
Thursday:
We arrived right at dark on Wednesday night and had a beautiful camp spot for our trailer. I meant to take a pic but forgot.
On Thursday, Cady got her .22 and bow all sighted in, but had trouble with her muzzleloader.
The rest of that day was spent driving to and from Trinidad, CO Walmart and resting up for competition which began the next day.
Friday:
After a nice club breakfast together and Opening Ceremonies, all of Bullseye met for the Orienteering contest, the beginning point for us. After Orienteering, our team (all girls - yeah!) headed over to .22. Gary Rogers and Colin were the coaches and the members were Taylor, Whitney, Cady, Emily and Isabella.
Cady had an outstanding Rifle competition this year and shot 11 out of 15 targets! Out of 63 Juniors in her age category, she placed 14th! We were very proud of her!

Colin shot as a coach this year, too and Rifle was his best competition - hitting 14/15 targets! He placed 7th out of the coaches.

Speaking of our group leader, he was great! All the volunteers at YHEC (except 1, ha ha - a story for another day) are wonderful with the kids. They joke with them, but also do their best to help them succeed and learn. Those that help are one of our favorite things about YHEC.
That was all our team had time for that first day, and after a nice club dinner of fajitas, a lot of the club members had some fun playing volleyball in the grass before the written exam (which Cady also placed 14th on!):
Saturday:
The next morning, all of Bullseye started at Archery. Here are a lot of them getting warmed up:
Cady did so well at archery and didn't miss a single target until the final two! She was so disappointed and doesn't know what happened to psych herself out. We were proud of her, though!
Colin had a bit of a rough start but redeemed himself with several twenties in the end. He hadn't shot in so long - I was just proud of him for getting out there and competing!

It's not her strongest competition but she still enjoys it. She got 5/15 clays this year:

Wildlife ID was next, but not much to take pictures of there. Then it was onto Muzzleloader. Cady wound up borrowing one and she only hit two targets which was rough, but we are going to work on getting her a new set up for next year!
Colin chose not to shoot muzzleloader this year.
Last, they participated in Hunter Safety Trail. I always love the photos of them walking back with their guide. This was the same one Cady had last year and he always makes sure they have a lot of fun with it as you can tell by the smiles:

The deer and antelope were out and about this year again, although no bears or turkeys. Still enjoy seeing all the wildlife around the Whittington Center:
