Colton's New Companion: Meet Laramie

Since early Spring, Colton has been wanting his own pup.  Not wanting - more like obsessing over getting his own pup!  He wants one that is trained and ready to take to college in only (sniff! sniff!) 4 years.  With the help of  Papa Jimmy and Gramma Suzy, he finally got one a couple of weeks ago.  With just enough time to get her house trained and used to us before high school starts!

So, let me introduce you to Laramie, a 7-week old, Texas Heeler (half Australian Shepherd and half Blue Heeler), from Silver City, NM.  Papa and Gramma found her, picked her up, put her in a cute camo box and met us in Deming one morning so we could all give her to Colton.  He didn't have a clue and he was pretty surprised and a little shocked!

He already had her name picked out - Laramie because he wants to go to college in Laramie, Wyoming at the University of Wyoming.

Taking pics to send to his friends:

 She is beautiful:
Still in a bit of shock, I think:

After spending about an hour with Papa and Gramma at the park in Deming, we headed home, with our first stop being Tractor Supply to get a bed and food for her:
 Hanging with "Aunt Cady":
Sunny has been fascinated with her:
Poor baby.  I always feel bad for them for the first day or so, after being taken away from their mama and siblings:

We love watching Colton play with her and how he's enjoying her:
Of course, since she is his, he gets nighttime duty, too!  This was Day 2 and they were both exhausted after a long night:

Sunny didn't want to leave her side:
 A boy and his dogs:

The second or third morning, they were sleeping awful late for being a puppy in a crate, which we want her crate/kennel trained like our other dogs.  So I peeked in and found he had made a bed on the floor next to her and had let her out of her crate to sleep with him:
This is Sunny's "She fascinates me but does she have to get so close?" look:
Colton took these pics when she was a few days old to enter in a 4-H photo contest:
When she had been with us for a week, she had her first vet appointment to get puppy shots.  I tried taking a pic of her and Colton together in the office, but was rushed and didn't do so good:

Colton did the checking in at the front desk, asked all the important questions, helped hold her when she got her shots and even collected the fecal sample that we had to take back in to be tested for parasites.  I was so proud of him!  He also called to make her 2nd appointment for later this month.  After the vet appointment, we went across the street to Caliches where the kids got a Coke float and Laramie got a few licks of a poochie cone (just a few licks, though. Colton asked the vet if he could and she said just a little off the top would be fine):

She is already an important part of our family and we all love her dearly!

Annual Grandparent/Cousin Time

The day after Cady's birthday, Papa and Gramma took all four grandparents for the start of their annual week together in the summer.  This year they were hanging out in Mimbres.  Gramma Suzy was good at sending me pics throughout their stay:
They did a lot of fun things like have canoe races at Lake Roberts:

 Playing in the river:

The girls baked cookies with Gramma one day and the boys worked in the shop with Papa:

They visited the Gila Cliff Dwellings:

As usual, it was one of the highlights of summer for them!

Thank you, Papa and Gramma! We love you!
