Well, both Colton and Cady are following in my footsteps when it comes to overcrowding in their mouths! We knew it was coming, but at Cady's last dentist appointment, Dr. Conniff showed us where her bottom teeth were already coming in behind her baby teeth and he needed to pull them because they weren't even the slightest bit loose! Now, pulling teeth is something I am very familiar with - I had all but 1 of my baby teeth pulled by the dentist and of all the baby teeth Colton has lost so far, he has only pulled 2 himself! It doesn't mean I don't get sad and anxious for my babies when they have to go through it, though. :-(
On the positive side, however, this meant that Cady would finally get that visit from the Tooth Fairy she has been waiting on for a long time! She has watched almost every classmate in Kinder and in 1st grade lose teeth, as well as all of her friends, some younger than her! It has been hard on her to be patient but I would just explain that she was about a year before she got her first tooth in, so they were going to fall out later than most who break their first teeth around a few months.
There is a big and wonderful difference between Cady getting teeth pulled and Colton getting them pulled and that is that she is way tougher than he is! Gramma Suzy says she is convinced that God gives girls an extra dose of toughness and I would have to agree! Cady was nervous about going, but unlike Colton, she was able to calm down (with help from the laughing gas) and relax. In fact, the gases don't do anything but make Colton more anxious, but they had her smiling and talking up a storm! Here is a picture of her before Dr. Conniff gave her the shots:
Even during the shots, she held real still and never whimpered or even got teary-eyed and that's always Colton's least favorite part. She still managed some smiles for me and talked a little bit while waiting for her teeth and mouth to "fall asleep". I was so very proud (and relieved)!
Before he pulled those two bottom teeth, Dr. Conniff also shaved the sides of the two on either side to make more room for the permanent ones already on their way up. He then quickly pulled the two middle ones - all in a matter of maybe two minutes! After he finished praising her for how brave she was and went on to another patient, her little eyes did fill up with tears and she was very subdued, but still, not a single tear fell. She did amazing!
I got her home and got a nice, cool washcloth on her head which was something my Mom always did for me, and made her comfy while she bit on guaze and watched tv.

A long time ago, one of the very first pins I pinned on Pinterest was a special door to make for the Tooth Fairy. Before the dentist appointment, Cady and I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a wooden door made for a doll house, as well as paint and stickers. As soon as she was feeling up to it, she got right to work on decorating it to hang in her room. First, she painted the door a dark pink:
She then painted the trim that went around the door a pretty yellow:
When that was dry, she decorated it with stickers, putting our house number on in the middle and then peace signs, stars, flowers and hearts all around. She then added some sticky-backed, colorful rhinestones and we glued on a button for the doorknob:
My job, besides hotgluing the trim and doorknob on, was making a beautiful inside for her to hang her tooth on and the Tooth Fairy to hang the money on.

I took a picture before adding the mini clothespin to the string. That is where we hung her teeth in a tiny little bag, for the Tooth Fairy to find.
When she was feeling like herself again, we went outside and took pictures of her pulled teeth and the new holes in her mouth:

We asked her that night how much money she thought the Tooth Fairy would leave her and she said "about $3, probably". Well, she was pretty excited to wake up and find two $5 bills inside her little door!
The Tooth Fairy also left her teeth there for her to keep, just like she does with Colton and did for me when I was little.
We know there will be more teeth-pulling down the road for both the kids, but I just hope and pray that Cady-Bug gets to pull at least one on her own! If not, though, at least we know she can handle the dentist doing it! :-)
Last Thursday evening, the Tombaugh first graders presented a musical for the parents. They had been working very hard on it for months, under the direction of their fun and amazing music teacher, Ms. Krug. It was about Frog and Toad, so they were asked to wear green or brown. We were excited to see that Cady got to stand with her good friends Cynthia and Jade:

I think it is going to be a fun year! Colton is excited to learn about photography and the others seemed excited, too!

Us grown-ups also enjoyed the lazy river and hot tub a bit! The guys also did the large slide with the kids a couple of times and Michael tried the surf machine. We had all gotten a special package that included pizza and a pitcher of soda for dinner and then breakfast the next morning. At 8:30, we got our pizza and ate dinner. It was almost 10 when we left the park! After 5 hours of playing, the kids were exhausted that night:
