Family Fishing Fun

On Sunday, Colin planned some fishing fun for us.  We headed toward Caballo Lake and found a great spot by the river that I just loved.  Grassy, green, picturesque...

...but unfortunately, the fish just weren't biting.  So, after a picnic lunch there, we headed over to the actual lake to try our hand. Well, Colin and the kids were the only ones fishing, I was taking pictures!!

Finally, Colton was the winner!  He caught a drum fish:
After some more trying, Cady gave up and waded some, which I think was her sole purpose for going in the first place!
I kept on taking pics while the guys were down a ways trying to catch something else:

They finally gave up after a good effort.

Even though it was just one fish caught, the day was definitely not wasted!  It was a wonderful day of family time and just getting away for a bit!  I love days like those and with everything the kids are involved with, we just don't get enough days like that anymore! Thank you, Colin, for making it happen!

Cady's a Teenager!!

Yep, our Cady Bug is 13 years old! Hard to believe!!  We are so proud of her and the young lady she is turning into!  Her future is so bright and we cannot wait to see where God leads her!  This year, she wanted a party at White Sands so that's what we did.  I made her cake and was pretty proud of how it turned out, other than some of the decorations falling off on the ride out there.

She wanted friends there and invited 9, but because of the time of year it is, a lot were traveling, so only 4 could actually attend.  She was happy, though!

She also requested volleyball and asked for a more sturdy, official volleyball net, which she got as an early birthday gift.  She and her friends played Colton and his friends and I think the younger girls beat them on every game or almost every game!
Another birthday request was her Daddy's street tacos for dinner and he was happy to oblige:
Colton invited some of his best buds to join us, too!

This cool bird, which I haven't seen out there before, crashed the party looking for crumbs, several times:
Colin and I pulled it off ! Always a lot of work, but always worth it to see the smiles on your kids' faces!  It was a wonderful party!

Yesterday, the 16th, was her actual birthday, and she was a trooper as she had to get up super early and attend a 2-day shotgun skeet camp.  I made her homemade waffles with sprinkles and whipped cream, though, so that helped!

A cute birthday balloon for her later that day:
For her birthday dinner, she chose Rudy's:
Then it was home for birthday cupcakes:

Besides clothes, books, and earrings (and the volleyball net), she got something she had been wanting forever - a new desk and chair for her room!  Only problem was that now that she is a teenager, she has to put them together, or so it seems!!

She actually got her chair together while her Dad and I worked on her desk, which still needs a few more steps:
I think it was a very good 13th birthday!!

Nationals Bound!

Last week, Colton stayed in the dorms at NMSU for State 4-H Conference, where he qualified to go in Livestock Judging and Horticulture.  He had a wonderful time with the rest of the Dona Ana County members. Here is their entire delegation:

The most exciting part was that their Livestock Judging team placed 3rd in the state and qualified for Nationals!  They will be headed to Kansas City in October for the American Royal! We are so proud of them!
These 4 aren't just teammates - they are very close friends and we couldn't be prouder of them!

Happy Birthday, 'Merica!

It was nice to have the kids home with us on the 4th this year, as they are usually with their Grampa and Gramma in Mimbres or somewhere else fun!  It was just the 4 of us and we were home this year, but we had a great day!  It started with taking the kids to the Alamo theater in El Paso to watch Jurassic World.  It was their first experience with the Alamo and their delicious popcorn and being served everything and they loved it and the movie! After a little shopping, we headed home where we grilled out and then played a lot of cornhole!  Lots of laughs made it a wonderful time.

That evening we went to Sonic for some milkshakes and then headed to the University to park and watch the city firework show:
 Happy 4th of July!
